Since 1977, the Houston Area Women’s Center has provided shelter and support services for survivors of domestic and sexual violence as well as prevention education to the community at large. The Houston Area Women’s Center (HAWC) helps individuals affected by domestic and sexual violence in their efforts to move their lives forward. HAWC provides shelter, counseling and advocacy to support survivors in building lives free from the effects of violence. Houston Area Women’s Center seeks social change to end domestic and sexual violence through community awareness and education. Services provided are confidential and available to everyone. Each year HAWC holds an annual race to raise funds and awareness. The Race Against Violence serves as one of the agency’s major community outreach efforts and fundraising events that enables the continuation of a spectrum of services offered free of charge to survivors. Brothers from Rho Xi Chapter assisted with registration, course set up, crowd control and participated in the 29th Annual Houston Area Women’s Center Race Against Violence 5K Run/Walk on Saturday, February 25, 2017 near the Montrose Area in Houston, TX. The Race Against Violence includes a competitive 5K run, walk and Kids Fun Run followed by the Family Festival on the AIG Campus at Whole Foods Market-Montrose. Rho Xi Chapter and the Houston Area Women’s Center believe that together we can make a difference and together we will end domestic and sexual violence.
