Premature birth affects approximately 380,000 infants and is the leading cause of infant mortality. In the United States, the risk of premature birth for black infants is higher than that of any other race. The March for Babies supports research and programs that help mothers have full-term pregnancies and infants begin healthy lives. The funds are also used to bring comfort and information to families with an infant in newborn intensive care. The March of Dimes researches the problems that threaten infants and works to prevent them. On April 23, 2017 members of the Rho Xi Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. participated in the March of Dimes March for Babies. Rho Xi Chapter raised $2,500 as well as community awareness for premature births.
